Collegiate Ministries

To the students who stopped by Judson's Ministry Fair on Friday, August 19-

I simply wanted to say thank you for coming by our table at the Ministry Fair last Friday. My only regret is that I was not able to talk with each of  you more. I hope that can be remedied in the days to come. I really want to encourage you to become involved in a local church, if you aren’t already. There are some good ones in town. There is no single church that will be the one where God desires all Judson students to attend. There may be some who indeed are led to check out Larkin Avenue Baptist Church. Our church is like an ongoing construction project. What is it today is probably not what it’s going to be three months from now.

As the church’s pastor, I can tell you that this is the direction I’m attempting to lead the church in:
Toward Church Health as measured by love for God, for other people, reaching out more to more people, sharing the gospel more with more people, and discipling more people more.

Meaningful Worship where every service shall be one in which the presence of God cannot be denied. This will be accomplished by a stronger emphasis on praying for and during the worship service. Who God is and His Word shall be presented in a manner so that people who are in the worship service will know of the love and righteousness of God.

Unchurched and lost people will be drawn to the Lord through a reflection of His acceptance and compassion. A greater climate for outreach will be created and resources for outreach will be provided. The outreach will be local, statewide, national, and international.

The pastor will function as the equipping manager for the church membership with regards to Christian growth and ministry skills development with the goal being to share the ministry of LABC with growing and skilled Christian leaders who multiply their ministry.

Lead a growing and an increasingly competent church staff, including a Minister of Students, a Minister of Music and Spanish Department Director.

I am a bivocational pastor, which means I have a full-time job (with the Elgin Police Department) in order to take care of most of my financial needs enabling me to do what I love – pastor Larkin Avenue Baptist Church. Call me on my cell phone at 847-902-0820 if I can ever be of assistance to you. I realize that there is a lot of things that our church cannot offer you, but one thing that I really attempt to offer is access to the pastor. My college pastor influenced and shaped my life like few people did. He could do that because I had access to him.

Blessings,

Richard Sanders, Pastor
