Position Openings

Bivocational Minister of Youth

The Larkin Avenue Baptist Church, 1158 Larkin Avenue in Elgin, IL, is searching for a Minister of Youth (grades 7-12). It is anticipated that this person (male or female) will work an average of 12 hours per week, 12 months per year. The church, which is pastored by a bivocational pastor, is located on the near west side of Elgin, a city of well over 100,000 individuals of various ethnicities.

This position will require a caring individual who is not easily discouraged, but feels a strong call of God to the position. It would be an added benefit for this person to be able to relate to different cultures. The church has a good facility, including a Rec Room and recently built showers to enable the hosting of missions groups coming to work in the area, which will enable the development of activities. The church has also recently created an Endowment Fund, which may be able to assist in the funding of discipleship-outreach projects.

The work of this role can be characterized in two different areas:
(1)   To disciple into strong, well-rounded believers the youth who are a part of LABC’s ministries.
(2)   To guide the Larkin Avenue Baptist Church into effective strategies for reaching the youth of Elgin.

Bivocational Minister of Music

The Larkin Avenue Baptist Church, 1158 Larkin Avenue in Elgin, IL, is searching for a Minister of Music. It is anticipated that this person (male or female) will work an average of 12 hours per week, 12 months per year. The church, which is pastored by a bivocational pastor, is located on the near west side of Elgin, a city of well over 100,000 individuals of various ethnicities.

This position will require a sensitive individual who is not easily discouraged, but feels a strong call of God to the position. This individual will need to see themselves as part of the overall team. The congregation, of which 40% of the membership is 60 years of age and above, can be easily led to learn new songs. The church has also had an outreach to local college students. While the church is now primarily an Anglo congregation, it would be an added benefit for this person to be able to relate to different cultures. The church currently hosts an Hispanic congregation that meets after LABC has its services. LABC is open to other ethnicities being a part of the worshipping body. The church has had a strong music ministry in the past, so it has acquired instruments such as handbells, chimes, a clavinova, pianos, as well as an organ. The church has also recently created an Endowment Fund, which may be able to assist in the funding of strategic music projects.

This individual would begin his/her ministry focusing on the following:
(1)   Developing Sunday morning worship services in such a way that individuals feel comfortable in worshipping God as a group
(2)   Working with musically inclined members and participants of LABC to strengthen their music skills and to develop a team of musicians.
(3)   Developing strategies in which the church’s music ministry will help strengthen the overall life of LABC.
